940 years ago to the day English Heritage staged a huge re-enactment of the single most important event in English history: the battle between the invasion force of Duke William of Normandy and the Anglo-Saxon force of King Harold. It was truly amazing to see 3000 combatants dressed in Norman and Saxon garb battle it out for 2 hours on Senlac Ridge. The added bonus for us was the encampment where the re-enactors lived for the weekend just as the Normans and Saxons would have over 900 years ago!
