On Safari!

Week 2 was spent on safari to Tarangire National Park and Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area – 2 of the best wilderness areas in Tanzania. We hired a driver, kasti, who is one of Allan’s drivers. He was a great spotter and knew his birds very well.

At Tarangire, Annette and Jon Simonson put us up in Tent 25 at their Tarangire Safari Lodge. We had a great few days of wildlife safaris, enjoying the pool and eating. Each morning we were up early with the birds to enjoy coffee on the porch of our tent. One morning we were out at 6:30am for a game drive – the best time for wildlife viewing. We had a very restful few days and the staff, as usual, took great care of us. Although it was holiday time for them, it was great to many of the same staff again and we were able to pass on greetings to the others.

Due to the cost of the Crater, we only spent 24 hours there. On Thursday we drove to the Crater; Friday was our day in the Crater – well most of the day as we had to out by 4:30pm. As we always do, we went on safari with no expectations of seeing anything (knowing full well we would see something!). Our attitude is Qué sera sera - what will be will be and we have yet to be disappointed. As you will see from the photos, this year was no exception.
